The Anniversary Film

Absolute Carnage, preserved.

Absolute Carnage #1 reached comic shops on August 7, 2019. Written by Donny Cates with art by Ryan Stegman, its 64-page opening issue began an event that spread across Marvel’s publishing line.

Our seventh-anniversary feature follows that larger record: the core issues, preludes, tie-ins, variant programs and physical material that accompanied the launch.

The Photo Essay

The story in four frames.

The context completes the issue.

Printing, cover artist, retailer, UPC and place in the reading order help explain how a comic was sold and read. A variant or promotional poster can preserve a different part of the same publishing moment.

What We’d Preserve

A publishing moment in five pieces.

The original list begins with issue #1’s first-print Ryan Stegman Cover A, an Artgerm variant, the FCBD 2019 Spider-Man/Venom prelude, release-era Stegman promotional art and the 2020 omnibus. They are collecting priorities, not inventory records.
